An incredible view from the northern most cape of Kythera
The northern most edge of the island of Kythera is Cape Spathi. This is where the impressive lighthouse of Moudari is located. The lighthouse is 25 meters high and very well preserved.
The overall area is of amazing beauty as the view from cape Spathi towards the Peloponnese is incredible. The best time to be there is during the sunset when the colors have an orange shade and the sun falls behind cape Tainaro. The sea underneath is crossed by tens of ships as it is one of the busiest ship crossings connecting the Aegean and Ionian seas.
To reach the lighthouse, you need to get to the village of Karavas. From there, head towards the neighborhood of Amir Ali and then take the road northeast to reach the lighthouse. The road is not paved for its most part (though it is roughly 3km and generally not in bad shape, so you wont have an issue driving there) and it is also part of the network of trails of the island.
The lighthouse is not on the "tourist map" and therefore it is one of the hidden gems of the island. This means that you can have the place almost entirely on your own and enjoy an incredible sunset in complete calmness and solitude.
