Peacock Flats is a relatively moderate trail that is clearly marked and paved and has amazing views of Haleiwa and beyond. It does get pretty steep in places, and like any hike in Hawaii, the weather can change pretty quickly, so be prepared. Note that the trail gets more challenging the farther up you go especially past Peacock Flats.

Parking is pretty straightforward once you are on Farington Highway coming out of Haleiwa. There's a small dirt lot on the east side of the gate and grass parking to the west. Once you go through the first gate and see the Mokuleia Forest Reserve Access Road sign on your right, you'll know you're there and see a long straightaway in front of you. The paved street to the top is lined with flora and fauna typical of Hawaii and the islands. You'll also see some cow, mongoose, and of course, a peacock or two.

If it's hot out, be prepared since most of the hike is exposed and you'll need plenty of water. It can be fairly steep in places so make sure to rest and take in the scenery. As with most hikes up a mountain, as you get closer to the top, the steeper it gets with occasional switchbacks but you feel the burn.

At the top, there is a final gate with Peacock Flats Campground on your left, so stay to the right and you'll see the rest of the trail beyond the campgrounds. At the top, you'll have amazing views of the whole valley/ area, and the same as you come back down the same way. Just take your time, enjoy the views, and drink water.
