Literally off the beaten path down a dirt road. A little hard to get to but WELL worth it. Good for families.

To get to this beach, first make sure your vehicle can handle dirt roads. Follow the road out of Poipu east (this is where it turns to dirt) follow until road until it "T"'s into another dirt road., turn right. After the security gate (public access is fine) there is a fork in the road, stay right. Just stay on this to the parking lot at end. After you grab your gear take the trail straight out to beach, the break will be straight out from the trail. (Note - security gate is locked from 6 Pm to 7 AM). This is a nice little uncrowded break and not nearly as intense as many south shore summer breaks. The wave itself is predominantly a right, but be looking out for an occasional left (the left is shorter but can have some good power). The wave is generally not hollow, but is fast enough to be fun, just watch out for the inside section - there are some very shallow rocks & coral that you can get thrown on to. Get in and out of the water in front of the beach house , just to the west of the break to avoid the rocks. Just off to the west, there is a little sandy beach break in front of the Gillin Beach House- it's a funky little wave, but it can get powerful and hollow, a good place to do a little bodysurfing with the kids.

Off the beaten path is a very true statement. I loved the privacy and serenity on this beach. My husband did not enjoy driving us here in our rental car (sedan of some type)! In fact, he felt uncomfortable and like we would damage the car, but we took our time and I am glad we made it! It was a beautiful and peaceful beach. We did not swim, just hung out on the beach and walked around a lot. Would have been much easier in a 4x4 vehicle! Risky in a rental.

If you stick to the left of the dirt road there is more privacy. I recommend a jeep or truck for this road but I made it in a ford torus, it was just slow going and bumpy. These beach is nice and a great place to watch the sunrise from and so so to watch the sunset from. Great each to spend a day at or hang a hammock up and relax and read. The surf wasn't good enough to surf or anything else besides swimming. There is no life guard here so swim at your own risk and watch out for those rip currents.
