Tseung Kwan O's (將軍澳) Secret Beach
88, Hong Kong
Description
Added by Kyle Obermann
A short 20 minute walk from the subway, find yourself whisked away from the bustling city life to be surrounded by only a handful of local fishermen. Watch the sunset and the tide come in from the cliffs, bring a bottle of wine, and enjoy the quiet view.
This beach may not have an official name, but some of the locals in the area call it "secret beach." The title is fitting. While not hard to reach, it is hard to find.
Take the Hong Kong West Rail MTR line to the Tiu Keng Leng stop. Take exit A2 and come out at the intersection of Chui Ling Rd (翠嶺路) and King Ling Rd (景嶺路). Cross Chui Ling Rd and head to the steal-gated red brick walkway (it's open to pedestrians only) immediately in front of you.
Follow the walkway past the tall apartment buildings on the right and follow it onto the concrete road that leads up the ocean shore to the Tseung Kwan O cemetery. As the road starts to go up there will be multiple resting points with benches for relaxing and taking in the views. Stop at the first one of these, which will be on your left as you head up. There is a waist high railing bordering the rest area separating it from the shrubbery. Find the small path that leads into the bushes, jump the railing, and follow it.
The path immediately leads to a steep, rocky slope with a sturdy rope hanging down all the way to the beach 50ft or so below. Hold onto the rope, and head down to the beach below! You can also explore the cliffs above and below - the local fishermen spread themselves quite far out on the rocks. Lastly, be safe and don't get caught on the beach exposed during high tide - at high tide leaving the beach can be dangerous.
