An open campground with plenty of space for camper vans and tents
Skaftafell is a large campground in the largest national park in Iceland. Grass for tents is located on the east side of the campground and gravel is on the west side for vans. You are situated very close to plenty of hiking trails that you can reach from the campsites themselves. Some of the more popular hikes include Svartifoss and Sjónarnípa. There are obviously many others.
The camping is year round and it can be paid for at the main visitor center which is obvious. There are bathrooms as well as showers located in the campground. Picnic tables are spaced across the open meadows as well. We used this as a base for a few nights to explore further east to diamond beach in addition to the trails and waterfalls in the actual park.
