Description

Added by Caden Chandler

This hike up Cervidae Peak is a little off the beaten path, so there shouldn't be much of a crowd.

From the peak the views are limitless, a full 360 degrees of landmarks like Lucky Peak Reservoir. Wildlife is quite abundant and if you're lucky you may be able to spot herds of antelope, deer, and elk. My favorite time to do this hike is during the earlier hours of the day. It offers a beautiful sunrise and  breathtaking fog on the water below. I also recommend going in the morning due to the fact that there isn't much shade, so if it's hot, it may not be as enjoyable during the later hours of the day. My first experience with this hike wasn't the best because right when you think your done there's another hill, don't let that get you down, keep pushing forward. Trust me when I say the views are worth it as well as the feeling of satisfaction. Soon enough you'll find yourself attending this hike on a regular basis.

To access the trail take Idaho 21 north from Boise past Highland Valley summit. Cross the high bridge near mile marker 18 and turn right immediately after the bridge. Continue down the road for about a mile (Proceed Past Spring Shores) and look for a parking run off on the right side of the road. Park there and the East Route Trailhead will be directly on the other side of the road. The trail has a fence blockade so that vehicles cannot enter it so slip past that and start the hike. You first part of the hike be a trail that juts to right heading east. Don't panic! Soon enough the trail takes a sharp left turn. You will then be facing northwest, follow the trail up the ridgeline for about 2 miles over a series of hills. Cervidae Peak will be highest hill compared to those that surround it. Have fun and be safe, always.

Cervidae Peak Reviews

Confirming the other reviews about a lot of uphill climbing. It is steep at times but overall a nice and quick day hike. Zero shade but for a few scrub brushes at the top so make sure to pack sunscreen and water!

I had the pleasure of going up to the Cervidae summit, 4987 ft. Great views, fairly easy trail to follow. At the summit, you will find a nice little green flag to take a selfie and a note pad to jot down your name! Careful coming back down, it could be a bit slippery—enjoy!

A nice hike very close to Boise! Beautiful views, minimal traffic. We took our dog and I think she loved it as much as we did!
