A relaxing summer river trip through to the heart of downtown Boise.

Floating the Boise River is the perfect leisurely summer activity for families and those who just want to relax outdoors. You'll enter the river at Barber Park, then float past beautiful trees and greenery on your way down to Ann Morrison Park. The whole trip takes about 2-3 hours.

To start, unless you are planning on taking the shuttle (look up the schedule for the day you are planning to go), you will want to park a car at Ann Morrison Park to take you back to Barber Park. (The marked location is for Barber Park, so if you're not taking the shuttle from Ann Morrison to Barber, then just google the location for Ann Morrison to park your first car.)

Then, drive up to Barber Park. Once you enter the park ($ entrance fee), keep driving past the bus circle, then take the next right to find parking. Then walk over to the small beach to blow up your tubes/rafts/etc (free air pumps!), and then walk down the ramp to enter the river.

After you get on the water, it's smooth sailing! There are two small rapids, but the main thing to worry about is the water level. There are very shallow sections along the river, so be careful to steer clear so you don't get stranded or scrape holes in the bottom of your raft. There are also overhanging trees that you might have to avoid along the river banks as well.

Along the way, you will see multiple locations for rope swings, swimming, and a bit of bridge jumping (NOT recommended). Eventually you'll reach the take-out point at Ann Morrison Park. There are signs near the end of the route warning you where the last take-out point is, and to your left you'll see the sandy bank where people are getting out.

Once you're out, you can either take the shuttle back to Barber Park or drive yourself there to get your second car.

Float the Boise River Reviews

Have you really been to Boise if you haven’t floated the Boise River? This is a popular summer activity, so don’t expect to have the river to yourself, although some days are less crowded than others. You can float it in a tube, but rafts are preferred cuz it’s COLD!!
