Hike the McFarland Park Loop
After parking in the main lot by the Story County Conservation building, you can choose between two starting points. I recommend starting on the left side of the parking lot at the gravel road and closed yellow gate, as this is a better point for the end of your loop. Visit Fossil & Prairie Park Preserve
It is so easy to find fossils at Fossil & Prairie Park Preserve in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Kid-friendly, had a great time and we found over 100's of Devonian fossils in a few hours. The parking is conveniently located right next to the fossil pit.

During the spring, fall and winter, the road down into the valley is closed. In the summer, it is open for vehicle traffic.
Starting at the upper parking lot, begin your hike by going west. The trail is cl...
