A beautiful desert oasis located in the Judean Desert close to the Dead Sea. Spectacular waterfalls and a stunning, scenic drive to the destination.

Ein Gedi was declared a nature reserve in 1971. The oasis is one of the most important in Israel. There is a hiking path that winds its way up the canyon, which begins at 1300 feet below sea level and climbs to 600 feet above sea level.

As you hike up the trail you soon see small waterfalls and wildlife. The most common wildlife are Nubian ibex and rock hyrax, however some nocturnal creatures sometimes come out of hiding. If you are lucky you may see foxes, wolves, and occasionally a spotted leopard.

The Lower David Stream Trail passes waterfalls and pools leading up to to the David Waterfall. The Upper David Trail is for experienced hikers and climbs up to the upper reaches of the reserve. Another option, the Tsafit Trail, is a difficult trail that climbs to spectacular views of the Dead Sea.

Hike through Ein Gedi Nature Reserve Reviews

If you're taking a tour of the Dead Sea and Masada, it is likely that you'll stop here. It is a beautiful place with lots of fresh running water to dip your toes into. And goats are everywhere! There is also a general picnic area where you get buy refreshments and sit at tables. Don't miss this spot!

Great hike in the desert. I remember the path was a little hard to follow but absolutely worth it. Many places to swim and dive to cool off. Beautifull waterfall.
