About this place

Added by John Clairmont

This 48.5km trail offers a long, challenging, and enjoyable trek that has great views the whole time.

La Vecia Via della Lana translates to "the Old Way of the Wool" which pretty much explains why the path was created. It was once a route that shepherds would use to transport livestock and goods from town to town. In modern times, the path is used for biking and hiking tourism. It spans from Soave to Selva di Progno, reaching just under the 50km mark. It is mostly 2-3 meter wide paved or gravel road, so prepare accordingly whichever means of travel you plan to use. I recommend splitting it up into sections to avoid dealing with the logistics of transportation, and there are enough route plans and maps for this online to assist in your trip planning.

The directions for this adventure take you to a church near Illasi which happens to be right between my two current favorite sections of the trail due to the quality and quantity of adventures nearby. Going north from there you'll head up the mountains, passing by Monte Garzon (be sure to ring the bell!), and south from the church you'll quickly pass by the Castello di Illasi. Even further south you'll pass by the Trabucchi d'Illasi Winery. Whichever way you go you'll be rewarded with great views of the valleys on both sides of the ridge as well as vast vineyards and olive groves.
