An amazing touristic path very close to the city of Trieste, where you can admire the magical coast area with a panoramic view into the Trieste gulf.
The Rilke trail stretches for almost 1.7 km along the Karstic cliffs.
The path takes you into wonderful Karstic pine woods with a mix of Mediterranean flora all around and many types of surface Karst phenomena.
You will find 5 “Belvedere Points” where you can stop and admire the picturesque panorama that surrounds you (during World War II these strategical points were used as anti-aircraft gun). Near one of them there’s a little cave with some steps that take you to an open bunker. Here you’ll find a natural breath-taking window that overlooks the sea.
The final Belvedere point is the most emotional in my opinion : you can watch the wonderful sunset shades that the Trieste gulf offers everyday, with a panoramic view of the Duino Castle. A color mix that will warm your heart.
The path is very easy and it takes about 2 hours to complete it. I personally suggest to make this excursion during some autumn uncrowded days, in order to enjoy all the colors of nature during this magical season and feel the calm and peace of this place (sunset time in particular).
