One-day hike close to the city, with amazing moon-like scenery.
Starting from the waterfront of Genova Pegli, behind the railway station, this hike follows the first part of E1 itinerary. After a brief part in a pine forest, you will get to Pian delle Monache, where you walk around a couple of farmers' houses. After a little while, you then reach Cian de Figge, a small space with picnic tables. Following the main path, you head up to the top of Monte Riondo, around 700 mt high. Going up to reach Monte Penello, you are surrounded by clouds and sharp rocks. Before getting to the top there is another picnic area.
Monte Penello is incredibly scenic. A metallic plate with a wind rose indicates the mountains that are visible from the top. There is a small building where trekkers can eat or spend the night and some ruins. From there, it takes only 20 minutes to reach the top of Punta Martin, which is truly amazing. We stood on top, completely surrounded by a sea of clouds, and we experienced the amazing Brocken spectre effect, due to the position of the sun behind our backs. You head down following the same path.
