Description

Built in AD 30, this amphitheater is in better condition than the Roman Colosseum and is still in use for operas and concerts, and will even be used for the 2026 Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

This is one of the best preserved structures of its kind. Originally used for gladiatorial battles, jousts, and circuses, the arena is still in use today but hosts slightly different events. There are mainly operas and concerts held here now, but in 2026 there will be a Winter Olympics closing ceremony! Guided tours are available if you plan far enough ahead, or you could attend one of the many events. More information and a calendar of events are available at the Official Site of Arena di Verona.

For photographers, it is easy enough to get some good pictures since the piazza is quite large and you can back up for wider shots, though sometimes you may need to be patient and wait for crowds to dissipate unless you want to include them. There are many beautiful cafes, bridges, and vineyards nearby as well. The arena is one of the main attractions in Verona, but while here you should also visit Juliet's house and get some gelato and café (espresso) nearby!
