Visit the Ruins of Largo di Torre Argentina
Roma, Italy
Description
Added by Crystal Sibson
Largo di Torre is a square in Rome, Italy with the remains of four temples and Pompey's Theater.
Largo di Torre is an open air archaeological site that was excavated in the 1920's by the dictator Benito Musslini. The site features the remains of four temples and Pompey's Curia. The different temples date between the 3rd century BC and 4th century AD.
For more than 2,000 years, the site of Largo di Torre Argentina has been known as the site of Julius Caesar's assassination. On March 15 44 BC, the Ides of March, Caesar was stabbed by conspirators outside of the theater of Pompey. Today it is a modern day cat sanctuary that sits about 20 feet below the current street level. As you look around the ruins, you'll start to notice the felines everywhere.

Visit the Ruins of Largo di Torre Argentina Reviews
Though this is not considered one of the main attractions in Rome, its a cool spot to see while walking through the city. It is close to many other major sites so it's easy to incorporate it in your itinerary as you walk around the city. There were some really beautiful cats living here.

The archeological site is nice but it is definitely not one of the top spots to visit in Rome. Not because of lack of interest but mainly because it is clearly overshadowed by so many other sites, monuments, museums, neighborhoods that you simply can't miss. There is a plan to upgrade the site with walkways and better overall access in the next year or so, which may make it more attractive in the future. As it stands right now, I suggest that you visit it only if it is convenient (it is located in the center of the city) or if you have enough time to spend in the city.
