The Brigata Tridentina Route or Via Ferrata Pisciadù is one of the most popular via ferrata routes in the Dolomites. And for good reason!
If you want to add a via ferrata on to your itinerary for the Dolomites, then the Pisciadù Via Ferrata (also known as Brigata Tridentina Klettersteig) is one of the best. A Dolomites classic!
This VF is easily accessible from the village of Colfosco, on the Passo Gardena mountain pass, with a small parking area close to the start.
Because this VF is easy to reach and not too technically challenging, it can get extremely busy in the summer months, so you'll either need to start early or wait until later in the afternoon and plan to sleep in the mountain refuge at the top.
When there's nobody else on the route, you can get to the top in around 2 hours. But if you plan on taking your time, or during busy times, plan around 3-4 hours, as you may find yourselves waiting in line.
The route is divided into 2 separate sections, with a small hike between them in the middle. Graded C, with the majority of the climb being closer to B graded difficulty. The route is not technically challenging, but because of it's length, I wouldn't recommend it for complete beginners. There are only two options to exit the route once you start. One after the first section, and another before the final steeper part of the route.
The descent back to the valley should also not be underestimated. The descent follows the route 666 which in many places is steep and narrow, with a lot of loose rock and gravel underfoot. You'll want to plan for around 2 hours for the descent.
