Description

Holywell Park is about an hour drive from New Kingston and the drive up to the park provides several wonderful views of the city from up above. The hike provides several scenic lookouts over the surrounding cities.

To get there, make your way up the Blue Mountains from New Kingston until you reach Holywell Park. The drive is very scenic and and follows a winding road with lots to observe along the way up.

Upon arriving at the park, there is a visitor's center where you can obtain more information about the park, the plant and animal diversity, and have the opportunity to take a guided tour.

The 0.7 mile loop is mostly gravel-paved and ascends through a forest that ultimately reaches Oatley Mountain Peak (4,395 ft). On the way to this point there are several panoramic views of St Andrew and Portland. The forest is rich in mosses and ferns and has over 50 different species of trees and shrubs. This area is also popular for bird watching.

Things to note: The park also has a nice area to have a picnic after this short hike. Some of the overlooks may be completely obstructed during cloudy days.
