Two pounds heavier, not complaining.

"smashing my Strava segment splits"

By: Joel Blatt + Save to a List

In 2004, purchased piece of art known as Colnago Extreme-C bike, originally engineered for the Alpe D'Huez time trial (Tour de France.)  Extreme-C, full carbon lug and round tube construction, weighed in at 14 pounds.  Keeping Italian, went with Campagnolo Record 10.  Also, had custom Reynolds/DT Swiss wheels built.  Rode steed for 15 years, until recurring speed wobbles scared me to death.

In 2019, after professional bike fitting, purchased Colnago's C64 at 16 pounds.  Simplistic objective of bike fit was frame size/slope confirmation.  With confidence "48 Sloping" is what Cody Peterson stated, documenting myriad other details pertaining to custom bike build.  Commissioned Project Bike (Bend, Oregon) to deliver entire build, taking into account all fit specifications.  Resulting payback is glorious new cycling experience.

With modern technology, posited qualitative and quantitative improvements, but nothing as measurable as this.  Grateful for bike fit positioning and comfort of wider tubeless tires combination, undercarriage is happy and long rides are enjoyable.  In 10 days, C64 has been performance tested and fared extremely well spanning gradients.  C64 cost more than girlfriend's car, but worth it.

Not a gear-head, but SRAM Red AXS beats crap out of mechanical and disc has decried "RIP rim brakes."  Avoid OCD behavior and racing, but opted for Garmin Edge and sync with Strava, complementing Type A personality.  Cranks, cassette and proper gear ratio enable previously unrealized cadence and related performance.  Old bike strongly deterred "riding in drops," while C64 maximizes drag coefficient (Cd) performance.

Get bike fit.  Buy new bike.  Ride hard.
