The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark. - John Muir

Rain, fog or shine, this loop is a great way to experience the diversity of ecological zones as you move from sea level to 1,500' above the ocean, and cross in and out of drainage areas in each. The views of Stinson Beach, Point Reyes and North Coast are breathtaking. It also makes for a killer trail run, with a ton of elevation gain and a mildly technical downhill to bomb on the Fire Road.

This is easily one of my favorite loops in the Bay Area and it makes for a killer trail run in either direction, any time of year, and in any weather.

The tunnel is fantastic. I can't believe I drove by it a half-dozen times without stopping. Getting the "godlight" in your photos is all about visiting at the right time of year and at sunset.
