Description

Added by Brennan Farley

This is a beautiful 1 mile loop through hardwoods and around a secluded lake.

This well kept trail is one of seven trails at John James Audubon State Park. A great short hike for the family starts at roughly 600 ft with minimal elevation change. The trail is surrounded by hardwoods and moss for the first half mile then the forest opens up to a small lake/wetlands area. The loop follows the perimeter of the lake. There is a back country trailhead at the halfway point which will add an extra 1.5 miles to the hike if you take it. The paths around the lake are mainly boardwalks. The last quarter mile is a paved road within the park made for foot traffic only. I recommend this hike for anyone who is interested in Kentucky's wildlife and nature. The park offers cabins, camping, an art museum, picnic areas, and a recreational lake as well.

Hike the Wilderness Lake Trail Reviews

If you don't have much time, this would be the trail for you. You can hike the entire state park in under a day, great views and all of the lake. No cliffs or ridges are in this park, mostly forest like areas. Overall a great hike if you have half a day to hike!
