Explore Historic Locust Grove

Built in 1790 by Major William Croghan and Lucy Clark Croghan (William George Rogers Clark's sister), Locust Grove became a place where major national figures who helped shaped our nation collaborated and provided a gathering space for rest while within the Kentucky Frontier. James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor, Aaron Burr all have stayed at the estate. Lewis and Clark also were given a homecoming here by Lucy after they completed there epic trip west. George Rogers Clark spent the final years of his life residing at Locust Grove. The property is adjacent to "Springfield", the boyhood home of President Zachary Taylor.

At one time this estate was over 700 acres, but today there is still roughly 40 acres that hold interpretive sites and the original home which is available for tours. There is also picnic grounds and a modern visitor center that has impressive artifacts from the site.
