Description

Added by Justin Ritucci

Panther Meadows Campground sits at 7,500 ft elevation with easy access to Panther Spring, one of Mt. Shasta's purest springs.

The Panther Meadows Campground is located in the timberline on Mt. Shasta. The free campsite has 10 sites with a fire ring and a table. The elevation of the campground is 7,500 ft, making it the highest campground on Mt. Shasta. Summer nights can get pretty cold, so make sure to bring proper attire. The high elevation and the lack of light pollution provide amazing night skies with some breathtaking views of the galaxy. It is a perfect place to photograph the stars and constellations.

The campsite provides easy access to hiking trails and two meadows that have amazing views of Mt. Shasta. It is also not far from the base of the mountain, where many backpackers start to make their way up the enormous mountain.

This site is located about 15 miles up the mountain on Everritt Memorial Highway. Parking is in a dirt lot on the right just past the Bunny Flat Trailhead.

Please also be respectful of this area as it's a Native American sacred place.

Panther Meadows Campground Reviews

Great description, Justin, and thanks for putting this adventure on the map! Panther Meadows Campground is indeed perfectly situated for photographic and hiking adventures on Mount Shasta. I camped there for a night in mid-October and was treated to a spectacular sunset and stargazing. Even on a Tuesday night in the fall, the campground filled up quickly, so an early arrival on the day you'd like to camp is highly recommended! The campground also encompasses the trailhead for Gray Butte, a moderate 3.4 mile out-and-back that provides phenomenal views for miles. (Bonus points: it's dog-friendly!)
