Easy access. Boat accessible. Trails and handicap accessible picnic areas.

Just a few miles north of Foresthill, Sugar Pine is a lesser known reservoir found in Placer County that is surprisingly unpopulated for how much the park provides. A swim suit, some friends, and some good music can be all it takes to have a good time.

There is a boat-launching station that is easy to access right near the parking lot (although the lake did seem almost too small for any larger/faster boats than a fishing boat). Fishing also seems to be pretty popular, with spots such as the dock and fallen trees that provide good casting spots. A good hiking option, alternatively, is the Joshua M. Hardt Memorial Trail (4 miles), an easy hike that loops around the reservoir. Camping spaces are also available with a permit - make your reservation here.

Even though the reservoir is pretty limited in things to do due to it's size, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a laid-back day trip or camping trip.

This was an easy hike around the reservoir. Great views and peaceful.

I’ve been here twice and I’ve fallen in love. It’s such a peaceful hike. You can bring your dogs which is a plus. I had no trouble getting there with the directions posted. It’s quite the drive, but totally worth it. The last time I went, there were a few hunters near the trail which was a little freaky. The hike is in a pretty remote area, so just be aware of your surroundings.

Sugar Pine Reservoir is a great place for some quiet time on the water. Speed limits for motorized boats makes for quiet, wake-free paddling. Ospreys are often seen overhead and river otters are known to make rare appearances. The boat ramp lot has lots of parking, making this lake a great choice for kayakers and paddle boarders, when the nearby Lake Clementine parking lot is full.
