Chimney Beach is a secluded beach and rocky shoreline on Tahoe's East Bank. Take a short 1-mile forest hike to a beach with beautiful views of surrounding mountains and a refreshing swim.

Located on the East Bank of Lake Tahoe along Highway 28, Chimney Beach is a great alternative to the more popular and heavily used beaches which can be quite a challenge to gain access due to the parking limitations during the busy summer months and on weekends.

From the parking area on the east side of highway 28 the trail begins on the west side of the road.  After a 1.1 mile down hill forested hike along Marlette Creek you will be greeted by the beautiful blue waters of Lake Tahoe, a scenic sandy beach with the namesake chimney, and surrounding rocky shoreline.

During the summer months this is a great location to cool off, enjoy a picnic with the family and relax.  If the beach itself is crowded a short scramble along the rocky shoreline will likely provide a secluded swimming hole.

Due to the popularity of this area is it is highly recommended to get here early on weekends and during the summer months.  There is also the option to complete a loop hike to Secret Cove or start from an alternative trail head a little further to the south on highway 28.

A little forewarning, although not as common as it was in the past Chimney Beach and Secret Cove are designated as clothing optional.

Relax at Tahoe's Chimney Beach Reviews

There’s always this rock I jump off into the water people seem to find, I love it here! Also walking back up can be exhausting for some but it’s worth it!

We loved how much quieter this beach was than Zephyr Cove. It’s about a half-a-mile a hike down to the beach, but not too strenuous. There were amazing views of the lake with rocks to explore. If you have your pup with you on your trip - bring them! There were a lot of dogs down there. Definitely a beach to try out while you’re on the East side of Lake Tahoe.

Had a great time there
