Lookout Peak in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness provides excellent views of Highland, Silver, Peep Sight and Bull Run Peaks, along with the Mokelumnee Wilderness to the north and the Emigrant Wilderness to the south.

Lookout Peak in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness off Highway 4 provides solitude and wonderful views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada including the Mokelumnee and Emigrant Wildernesses. Even on summer weekends you'll likely have the peak and surrounding area all to yourself.

Lookout Peak can be done as a straightforward day hike, often times in conjunction with the nearby Peep Sight, Henry, and Bull Run Peaks as a loop beginning at the Pacific Valley Trailhead.

To read the Pacific Valley Trailhead, take Highway 4 past Lake Alpine. Once you cross over the Pacific Grade Summit and begin to descend, the Pacific Valley Road will be on your right.

As you head down the trail, Lookout Peak is immediately to the left (East). About a half-mile down the trail, cross the creak and head up the west side of the peak which will eventually narrow to become the south-west ridgeline, so you'll need to stay in a general south-easterly direction as you ascend to the obvious summit.

The summit register is wedged between some rocks.

To proceed to Peep Sight Peak, head to the southeast across the beautiful Willow Flat, and loop around from the north to the southeast side of the Peep Sight Summit.

Climb Lookout Peak in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness Reviews

I spent most of my summers growing up exploring this area of California and it is a very beautiful area, just make sure Ebbetts Pass is open. This is a great hike with an outstanding view!
