Description

Devils Kitchen is a geothermal hot bed with a beautiful mountain creek running directly thought it.

Your hike to Devils Kitchen will start from Warner Valley Campground. The hike starts out thorough the valley and eventually winds through the forest and ends at the top of the Devils Kitchen site. You'll then hike down the hill a bit and get to explore the area!

There are pretty specific walking paths for you to stick to as people have fallen through the soft ground into the thermal mud and burned themselves pretty badly so though I am never one to "stick to the trail" it would be wise to do so here.

I think the coolest time to photograph this place would be closer to dusk where you can get some loner exposures in there and capture all the steam coming off the water and thermal pools. We went during the day and weren't fully able to capture the beauty of it!

Devils Kitchen Trail Reviews

Saw a bear on the trail in front of us. There have been more and more bear sightings recently. You can see the ground bubbling and steaming at the end

We saw a black bear (brown in color). It was so quiet, we didn't know it was there until it walked right out onto the trail in front of us. It looked right at us and started coming our way, so we started going back the way we came. Bear sightings seem to be common in Lassen, so learn about bear safety before you go. The hike is relatively easy, but because of the high elevation (we are from near sea level) it was a little more tiring than we expected. The boiling pots of volcanic activity are really neat to see.
