Great views on this single track gem in Lake Tahoe. And with 2300' of elevation gain, this is a great workout!
Start out at the top of Corral Loop, in South Lake Tahoe, and begin the climb up Armstrong Pass. After the 4 mile ride up, you reach the split to either Mr. Toads or Star Lake. Continue another 2.5 miles up the steep and sandy climb to the saddle just below Freel Peak, the tallest peak in the basin, where you will be met with amazing views looking towards the back of Heavenly Ski Resort and Lake Tahoe.
Enjoy a little victory snack, drop your seat, and get ready for the ride downhill! 2.5 miles of downhill to the amazing Star Lake that awaits you! From here enjoy the lake and relax. Maybe grab another snack and a rest at the lake before your next downhill, 4 miles, down Cold Creek and then back down to South Lake Tahoe 7 miles. This is a really fun trail with lots of switchbacks and speed, but also a bunch of fun technical sections as well.
Hop on Railroad grade for 1 mile and enjoy the cruise back to the base of Corral Trail.

Reviews
Star lake is my favorite MTB destination. There are a million ways to get there but each one is amazing. The Armstrong trail is one of the best climbs around. Pack your overnight gear and spend the night under the stars. It's only fitting.
