Joshua Tree National Park is definitely a great place to be for adventuring off through unreal rock formations. Night photography is absolutely unreal. Because Joshua Tree is secluded and distanced enough from light pollution, the visibility of the stars is spectacular. Ideal to go during a new moon rather than a full moon because the stars will be more visible. Another option is to wait for the moon to set and take photographs when it is darkest.
