Hike along a small stream to a waterfall, close to which lie the ruins of the Tropical Terrance House, designed by architect Paul Revere Williams. Makes for a good workout.

To reach the trail, head up the stairs from the parking lot, giving glimpses of the coast. In 0.1 miles, after crossing a paved road, turn right onto Rising Sun.

For an easier hike through the canyon, take Solstice Canyon Trail, which is a mix of paved road and fire road, although likely to have more people than Rising Sun.

Rising Sun Trail, Solstice Canyon Reviews

I went here a few weeks ago, and everything seemed to line up perfectly. While it's definitely not the most strenuous hike in the Santa Monica Mountains, it's hard enough that if you carry a pack (or a baby) you can get in a great workout. After all the rain we've had, it's beautiful now, wildflowers, tall grass, green bushes, fragrant sage, and tall trees along the gully and at the creek.

Came to this trail after eating the Malibu Seafood Shack just down the block and I really enjoyed it. The trail is a lot of fun and very popular. You hike and follow the trail until you reach a little waterfall next to an old torn down estate. However, I suggest you go for the added fun of rock climbing and go past this point.
