The Teepee Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains is a hidden gem! With views of Hollywood, Downtown LA, and even the ocean, this hike is strenuous, yet extremely rewarding.

Hidden in the small community of La Canada, California, the trailhead is pretty hidden! From the 210, take the exit for Highway 2/Angeles Crest Highway. Head north (towards the mountains) for about a mile. As the highway begins to curve, you will come across a small side-street, Harter Lane. Turn Left, and follow the road to the end, and park.

At the end of Harter Lane, you will find a small paved road to the left. This is the beginning of the Crosstown Trail! Begin heading up this steep hill past an information board and a large water tank. At about 0.3 miles turn right at the junction to stay on the Crosstown Trail. After this, the trail gets pretty tricky-prepare yourself for a steep climb.

At about 0.9 miles you will reach some picnic benches. (Pro-tip: I usually store some dinner and wine under the tables here, for a rewarding meal at the end.) Keep following the path up the steep incline. At 1.5 miles, you enter a meadow, where you get great views of Strawberry Peak, Mt. Disappointment and San Gabriel Peak. After this, round the bend, and you have reached the teepee! Take a deep breath and explore the surrounding area. The view is spectacular.

Teepee Trail Reviews

This is such a great workout and the view is absolutely amazing! The trail is very steep, definitely not stroller friendly. I brought mine and had help from the friends I went with.
