Cross Country Ski the Trails at Harris Farm

Dayton, Maine

Description

Added by Danielle Tourigny

Only 30 minutes from Portland, Harris Farm has several miles worth of beautifully groomed trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing!

Harris Farm is a great place for beginner cross country skiing or to hone in on already developed skills. They provide rentals ($15pp) and the network of trails is several miles long. The trails range from green (easy) to red/black (more difficult). I personally love hanging out on the blue trails that are moderately difficult and have plenty of hills winding through forest and meadows.

The entire 2 hours we were out skiing, we saw snowmobiles riding through the trails to pick up debris and keep them nice and smooth. There is also a trail map at every intersection to ensure that nobody gets lost! When you are getting close to returning back to the farm, signs direct you that way as well.

When you finish skiing, the farm has a small cafe upstairs and there is always hot chocolate. I wrapped up my time there by buying some fresh cut beef steaks and chocolate milk (so rich and delicious). They also sell freshly churned butter, baked goodies and eggs. Definitely a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon in the winter!
