Fantastic views on the Appalachian TrailOnly 1 hour drive from Baltimore, MDPopular hike in Maryland

Annapolis Rock and Black Rock Cliff are both scenic vistas off of the Appalachian Trail. Annapolis Rock are a set of cliffs facing west, overlooking Cumberland Valley and Greenbrier Lake. The outlook is approximately 2.7 miles from the parking lot. At Annapolis Rock, there is a camping area that can hold up to 16 spots (Be ware that they are currently closed to allow for reforestation). Annapolis Rock is also a popular area for rock climbing (Trad and TopRope; 5.3-5.10a). Black Rock Cliff, the other outlook, is at 3.9 miles into the hike and is much less crowded and secluded with an incredible view of the west.

Directions:Park in the A.T. parking area on US 40. Walk down the paved road and take a left at the end. Walk the trail (blue blazes) until you reach the pedestrian bridge. Do not cross the bridge! Take a right and follow the Appalachian Trail (white blazes). Keep following the Appalachian Trail. In 2.5 miles you will reach Annapolis Rock. Keep continuing on the trail for Black Rock Cliffs. Bring lunch and take a break to enjoy the views. Return along the same trail back to the parking lot.
