About this place

Added by Jonah Lucas

The Patuxent River travels through much of the state of Maryland and is easily accessible to all paddle craft.

While there are many parks along its length, one of the best places to explore along the 115 mile long Patuxent River is by putting in at Kings Landing Park.  There is ample parking near the launch, and while vehicles are not allowed to park near the water, vehicles are encouraged to open the gate (not locked) to temporarily drop their paddle craft off fast the sandy launch.  The walk back to the car is a few hundred yards, and there are porto johns both at the boat launch and parking area.  The water front also has a wooden fishing pier, and there are short hikes that explore the rest of the park.

Once in the water, both upstream and downstream offer areas to explore.  Upstream the river gets narrower and less congested, downstream the river is wide open and passes small communities and large waterfront properties.  The river is bordered in many places by different parks, so there is ample opportunity to see waterfowl, and public bird blinds on the shoreline.

Whether you paddle multiple miles of simply hang around the pier, this is a good spot to explore the Patuxent River!
