Get views of the Taconic and the Catskills in just 20 minutes!
If you ever decide to go to the beautiful Beartown State Forest, be sure to enjoy the short but worthy hike to the vista on the Lookout Trail for views that stretches out to the mountains.
There are two places to park:
1. From the main entrance of the park, you can get a spot at the lot at Benedict Pond ("Daily Parking Fee: $8 MA Vehicle, $10 non-MA Vehicle") where you can follow the road to the trailhead only a mile away. Alternatively, get a map of the park and take the Benedict Pond Loop and connect it to another trail which will take you to the Lookout Trailhead.
2. Or, what we did was park on a dirt patch to the right of the trailhead, big enough for two vehicles (which is the location of this adventure).
After a night of camping, this trail is a great way to start your day for breathtaking views of the South Taconic Mountains and Catskills in the distance.
Here's a link to way more information about the park!
P.S. The picnic tables at the vista is a nice spot for a planned breakfast or lunch :)
