7 Reasons Why Renting a Jeep is the Best Way to Explore Colorado

Want to take in as much Colorado scenery as possible? Rent an off-road vehicle!

By: Merritt McKinney + Save to a List

Reason 1: Colorado is massive! If you are visiting for a short time-period, renting a Jeep is the most efficient way to get around the Rockies! A standard rental car can only get you so far. If you truly want to make the most of your trip, you need a vehicle that can take you over the mountains!

Reason 2: It's cheaper than you think. We were able to rent a Jeep from Farabee's for $200/day. Compared to standard car rental rates, this is extremely competitive pricing plus you are obtaining the necessary off-road capabilities to handle mountain trails! You will get your money's worth!

Reason 3: You'll experience so much more of Colorado! Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the rewards of a long hike. However, you can not cover as much ground on foot as you can with four wheels. Colorado is littered with Jeep trails (especially near Ouray and Telluride) that allow you to drive for miles into the Rocky Mountains.

Reason 4: You'll reach new heights. You'll find places that you couldn't get to otherwise. Renting an off-road vehicle will allow you to take in all of Colorado's diverse landscapes in one day! You can drive directly up to 300 foot waterfalls or climb to 13,000 feet. Want to go for a hike? There are plenty of hikes that stem from off-road trails such as the Blue Lakes, Mt. Sneffels, and Bridal Veil Falls.

Reason 5: It's safe. You might think taking a vehicle off-road is dangerous, but it truthfully isn't. The trails through the San Juan Mountains are well maintained during the summer and easy to maneuver. There are always "bail-outs" anywhere there are more complex obstacles. If you're new to off-roading, just take it slow! It's literally just like driving a car! If you do get into trouble, there are plenty of other adventure-seekers on the trails that will be more than willing to give you a hand.

Reason 6: For most people, this is something new. Push yourself out of your comfort zone while exploring the vastness of the Colorado Rockies! You'll learn a new skill, have a blast, and encounter some truly unique landscapes! If you're not much of a hiker or are intimidated by the outdoors, this is a perfect way to see sights you would normally pass up!

Reason 7: You'll make memories that will last a lifetime! You will experience way more than you can handle! There were so many times I would point out a trail, mountain, or waterfall that I wanted to explore further but did not have enough time to stop. There are unlimited sights to visit in these mountains and if you stop at every single one, you barely will move at all! Take notes of places you may not have time to visit now but would like to explore later. By the end of your trip, you will probably already have your next trip planned!
