About this place

Added by Josiah Roe

Desolate, windswept beach camping set against the massive east face of the Sierra de la Gigantes mountains and the epic Sea of Cortez

Playa Ligüí south of Loreto is effectively the last public beach on Highway 1 before it heads west over the Sierra de la Gigantes mountains, and while not the pristine white sand beach of other nearby beaches it is still absolutely dramatic with fantastic views of the Sea of Cortez, Danzante Island, and the east face of the Gigantes.

To get there take Highway 1 south out of Loreto about 37 kilometers and take the well marked turn off for Playa Ligüí. There are several decent car camping spots though the sand can be deep in spots. In winter the Norte winds can be quite aggressive so anchor your tents accordingly.

There are no facilities though there is a market in the little village of Lugui. Cell service is sparse.

Pack out what you pack in.
