Solitude at the end of the road in a remote corner of Baja California Sur.
The tiny fishing village of Puerto Agua Verde has a church, a sometimes open bodega, and two "restaurants" which are rarely open and are exactly what you would picture of a small beach eatery at the end of a dirt road some 60 miles from the nearest gas station.
The gorgeous, quarter-mile long beach is the center of the community, as the small bay provides a relative safe place for a handful of fishing boats to put in/out, and is framed by two rocky prominences. The boats tend to put in/out on the south end of the beach and the northern half is perfect for camping.
There are no fees and there is a good chance you will have the place to yourself, otherwise your only company will be locals and other true Baja adventurers.
To get there take Highway 1 approximately 57 kilometers south out of Loreto, BCS (64 km north out of Cuidad Insurgentes). Go left at the sign for Ague Verde and take the road approximately another 50 or so kilometers. After the first 10 kilometers the road will turn to dirt.
When you enter the town, there are several clear turns to the left through the trees to the beach. You cannot miss it.
There is not cell service, wifi, or fuel available.
In winter the Norte winds can be brutal and in the summer the heat is downright unbearable.
The road to Agua Verde itself can be very rough so as with any trip in Baja, bring your own food, fuel, water, spare tire, tire jack, and be sure to pack out everything you pack in.
