Quiet, backcountry only state park. Located along the Superior Hiking Trail. Campsites for beginning and advanced hikers. Campfire rings, toilets, and some bear poles. Water source nearby each site. Beautiful, scenic views of Lake Superior.

George H. Crosby Manitou State Park is a lesser known park along Minnesota's North Shore. There are only backcountry sites, and it's not conveniently along the scenic road, so you really have to plan on going here. This makes it quiet, peaceful, and absolutely perfect for someone looking for a little solitude!

The trail starts in a dirt parking lot, which the Superior Hiking Trail passes right through. There are pit toilets at the trailhead which is convenient, especially when hiking with kids!

There are many trails in this park, and different routes to take depending on your campsite and how long you want to hike. For the beginner, there are campsites just a short walk from the parking lot near Bensen Lake. We wanted something a little more adventurous, and picked campsite #6 which looked to be at the top of a hill. We figured it would have a pretty good view.

We started on Middle Trail, turned off onto West Manitou River Trail, and camped one night at site #6. On the way out we followed Misquah to Yellow Birch, cut through next to campsite 20, around the lake, and then back to the parking lot. Total trail miles was about 5.5.

We had some epic views, and our kids did great hiking in and then back out the next day. We definitely recommend this park for beginner and advanced hikers alike!
