Minnesota has very unique and amazing places to hike if you look hard enough. This particular hike is unlike any other in MN, and although it can be tricky to traverse in the winter, it's fully worth it.

This 1 mile out-and-back hike starts on the highway wayside for Kadunce River. Park in the parking lot facing Lake Superior and cross the road to start hiking towards the gorge.

There are two different routes you can choose from. The first is to the right of the river and is a part of the Super Hiking Trail, this route will take you up above the gorge and will eventually meet up with a small trail you can use to get back down to the river. The second option is to walk along the river, specifically during the winter when the river is frozen, be careful to follow the path marked as some spots of the river can have thin ice. Although, if you did fall in, the river is shallow and it would really only result in having cold, wet shoes.

Hike about a half mile or so and you will start out by traversing a small ledge around a small falls and up over to continue on the trail. There is a second falls that is much larger following it. For winter, be very cautious as sometimes the second falls are easy to scurry up and other times it's glare ice. I highly recommend bringing either crampons or ice fishing cleats, rope, and something you can use to stabilize yourself if necessary. If you can't climb the falls, be safe and go back to where you can hike along the top of the gorge as you can come back around from the other side.

After you pass the larger falls, you will get to the best part of the gorge. If you're planning on taking photos, a fish eye or the ability to stitch your photos will be needed. It's very thin and very tall.

Spend some time in nature, enjoy the views of these breath taking cliffs!
