Description

It’s a short trail, 0.5 miles one way, but it’s a climb: there are 378 steps on the upper portion of the trail.

Park on Huff Street on the bridge that divides Lake Winona (we parked in the lot by the Visitor Center).  Walk on Huff St. towards the highway (14/61) and turn left on W. Lake Boulevard (be careful here, it’s a busy road).  Continue on Lake Blvd. past Cty Rd. 44 .  Before the first house on Lake Blvd. you’ll see the wooded path.  Follow the path up and you’ll eventually get to Garvin Heights Park Overlook.  This is a strenuous hike.  It’s uphill and often muddy (wear good shoes).  Once up to the top you can see Lake Winona and the Mississippi River! When it’s clear you can see for 20 miles!  There are interpretive signs and a map of the city at the top.

Scenic all year round, but especially in the fall with the vibrant colors of the trees.  Hopefully you'll catch it with a clear sky, unlike the day I was there.
