A hike that wont be crowded and is one of the most challenging trails in the park, the view is worth it though.
The trail is a gravel surface that makes a loop around the long narrow ridge top southwest of the lake parking lot. You will pass the trail on your way to the lake parking lot. The first section of the trail starts right past the sing for the park and boring trail it then heads in a counter clockwise direction passing through the oak woodland until a rocky area is encountered. At this point, the trail goes off to the right down a slight hill and crosses a road. After crossing the road head up an old road bed and and turn left and take the stone steps that lead to a loop section of the trail. Walk this loop in a clockwise direction, the loop will take you through a lager area of sandstone boulders along with bluffs and shelves on the trail. In the fall this area can be tricky due to leaves on the trail, with your step and follow the red markings. The final section of the trail has great views of the lake. You will then come back to the start of the loop and cross the road and head back the way you came.
