About this place

Added by Justin Schaefer

Take a hike on the Osage Bluff Scenic Trail Loop to two overlook points over the Osage River.

From Westphalia, MO take Highway 63 north, then Highway 133 west 7 miles to the area. The coordinates for the road that will take you to the trailhead are: 38°24'38.8"N 92°05'56.1"W. The trail is a 1.8 mile loop, so you can start either direction.

The lands of Painted Rock Conservation Area show evidence of occupation by Native Americans as early as 9,000 years ago. An Indian burial cairn, located along Osage Scenic Bluff Trail, was constructed between 500 and 1,500 years ago.

There are two seperate overlooks along the Osage Bluff Scenic Trail with beautiful views of the Osage River. At the overlooks, there are great opportunities for photography, or to take a break before you continue on your hike.

The area is open daily from 4:00am-10:00pm.
