Granite Park Chalet via Highline Trail

The trailhead for the Highline Trail is located near the west side of Logan's Pass. Parking is limited at the Pass so arriving early to guarantee a spot, or taking a park shuttle (no fee) is suggested. The shuttles run consistently during the day at different locations throughout the Park. However, these shuttles stop running in the evening, so make sure that you have an alternative way to get down the pass if you choose to stay out longer past the designated shuttle times. This trail follows Going to the Sun Road, and has a few exposed areas off the cliffside that exhibits the grandeur of Glacier National Park. For those who have a fear of heights, there is a cable to hold onto for safety.

The trail leads directly to Granite Park Chalet, and it can be seen from quite a distance while hiking. Before reaching the Chalet, there is another route that backtracks and has a pretty intense incline to a notch which overlooks Grinnell Glacier. The climb, although tiring, is well worth the view from the top.

Once reaching the Granite Park Chalet, take a break and each some lunch. Enjoy the history behind the building, and explore the surrounding area. If you reserve a spot well ahead of time, you may even be able to spend a night in the Chalet. Current rates go for $100 for the first person and $80 for any additional person in a room.

To return to the trailhead, simply hike down the Granite Peak Trail to Going to the Sun Road to take the shuttle back.
