Hike to Two Medicine Pass

Starting at the South Shore trailhead on Two Medicine Lake (parking available), you'll follow the lake through alternating forest and meadows and eventually cross a small suspension bridge. 

Afterwards the trail forks. Take the "Two Medicine Pass" trail on the left rather than the Twin Falls/Upper Two Medicine Lake trail and continue up until you reach Rockwell Falls, which is a popular destination in and of itself (roughly 3.4 miles from start of hike).

After the falls, the trail climbs more steeply and you'll find yourself hiking alongside a small stream with great views to lake below and ridge of Sinopah Mountain. 

The next landmark you'll reach is Cobalt Lake, which is another popular end point (or a good place for lunch!). It's backed by steep cliff walls and surrounded by lush vegetation and trees.

It's about another 1.5 miles of steep trail to the pass, and you'll see the landscape start to change to include less forest vegetation and more brightly colored wildflowers and lichen on the stone-filled ridge. On the ridge, the pass itself is technically on the far end (directly above Cobalt Lake), but there are great panoramic views from the whole area. 

The hike is 7.9 miles one way, and is moderately difficult, mainly because of the length. You can shave off 3 miles by taking the boat ride across Two Medicine Lake instead of hiking alongside it on the South Shore Trail. You should also be alert for grizzly bears, especially in the lower forested section!
