Catch your breath 5.5 miles in at Hyalite Lake. For amazing views, push yourself for the next two miles up to Hyalite Peak. The trail follows the river for the majority of the hike and passes a few waterfalls. This hike is 15 miles roundtrip. Duration: Full Day.

Hyalite peak is one of my favorite hikes. Named after the canyon it sits in Hyalite peak as 360 degree views, an offers and escape from the crowds of Hyalite Canyon due to the length of the hike.

This 15 mile hike starts at the upper parking lot of hyalite canyon. The trail follows a river nearly the entire hike. The first 5 miles are all in the trees and fairly shaded, you pass several waterfalls as well, making it hard not to stop every step of the way.

Around mile 5.5 you’ll reach Hyalite Lake, many turn around here, but the last two steep miles are worth the views. Hike along wild flowers until the last mile half mile of steep scree hiking to get to the top.

15 miles in total, a lunch at the top is well deserved. Snacks, for the long hike are important. Being in Montana, rain gear, as well as warm layers are a must, weather changes quickly in the mountains!

I was astonished at the amount of waterfalls along the route. Well worth it if you don't even plan to summit. We camped at the lake and hiked the summit early in the morning when it was clear. The 2 miles to the summit is a very strenuous hike, very steep. By the time we got to the top we were socked in with clouds and unable to enjoy the views. Just means were going to have to give it another go. The weather changes quickly so be prepared.

This was my first hike I completed in the Bozeman area and my first 10,000 ft. peak and boy was it worth it. I would highly recommend this hike for anyone in the area not only for the views at the summit, but the views along the trail as well. There are many waterfalls to explore along the trail. Overall, an enjoyable and challenging day hike.

Gorgeous hike with even better views of the canyon. The weather can change quickly so be prepared. Expect a challenging hike on the ascent toward Hyalite Lake as the trail steepens. Well worth the challenges though.
