Enjoy a sunrise or sunset paddle on Saint Mary Lake, Glacier National Park's second largest lake. Take in views of some of the most striking peaks along the Continental Divide, including Little Chief Mountain, Mahtotopa Mountain, and Red Eagle Mountain.Paddle up to famous Wild Goose Island, the iconic island in the middle of Saint Mary Lake.

Glacier National Park, one of the United States' finest national parks, is home to some of the most spectacular glacially carved lakes in the country. Situated along the famous Going-to-the-Sun (GTTS) road, Saint Mary Lake, the park's second largest lake, offers some of the finest views in the park, not to mention a beautiful waterway for a sunrise or sunset paddle. When the GTTS road is open (usually mid-summer to late fall), take it to the "Rising Sun" area on the east side of the park. Rising Sun provides suitable access to the lake and is a great spot to launch your kayak. Once you hit the water, be sure to explore the shorelines and take in the spectacular views of the peaks hovering above you. As a bonus, paddle out to the famous Wild Goose Island, a piece of land that few experience close up. Enjoy the ridge and stay safe - the waters of Saint Mary Lake are known to be extremely cold year round.
