Great sport climbing from 5.6-5.13. This is arguably the best limestone in Bozeman. Although close to town and the highway, once you're up there, it definitely won't feel like it. Duration: Hours.

Bozeman Pass is a great crag just out side of Bozeman. It offers limestone sport climbing ranging from 5.6-5.13. The approach is a short hike, unfortunately right next to the road, but otherwise enjoyable. To get there, you drive east towards billings and exit at trail creek, and take a left under the over pass. At the end of the road there is a parking lot. The trail goes through grass fields until a wooden ladder. From there you hike about a mile until heading up and away from the highway and towards the crag. The first wall you will reach is the Frat Boy.

One of the must climb routes is Little Boy on the Frat Boy wall. A great sustained 5.10a. To the right of it are a few 5.8’s that act as good warm ups. If you’re feeling strong head higher up the trail for harder climbs.

Although most the climbs are relatively short, the amount of climbs offered make for a great training ground. Bozeman pass is the best limestone in Bozeman. Don’t let proximity to the highway deter you either. Once at the rock you can barely hear the occasional semi.

Climb the Bozeman Pass Reviews

i've only hiked in this area but heard good things about the climbing. sharp rock is never fun but what doesn't kill you...

Not the best climbing. Rock is sharp and will cut up your hands. Don't camp here, it's very loud and the train will wake you up.
