Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is such a vibrant city to visit.

Amsterdam has about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges.  That makes getting around it fun and unique.  You can take a boat tour of the canals.  I would recommend renting a bike.  That’s how the locals get around.  According to “IamAmsterdam,” there are over 880,000 bikes in the city. Additionally, over 2 million kilometres are cycled by Amsterdammers each day; that’s over 1,242,742 miles!  Some of the canals are even a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

These delightful waterways served an important purpose in Amsterdam’s history and function because of excellent planning and design.  There are over 1,000 sites to see inside Amsterdam's canal ring including The Anne Frank House, Museum van Loon, and Westerkerk.

We had an awesome time biking around the canals.  We also enjoyed just strolling along them, taking pictures, and looking at the townhouses and houseboats.

Get started anywhere, I just picked a spot along the canals for Outbound Collective directions above.

Explore the Canals of Amsterdam Reviews

Amsterdam is an incredible city, and one of the best ways to see it is definitely from the water. You'll see the city from a whole new perspective.

Going to Amsterdam without exploring its canals is a totally broken experience! You can't skip it and you should not! It is simply very nice and especially if you happen to be in the city on a sunny day when all colors around are making it a visual feast, it is incredible! However, what I didn;t like is that the city can get very crowded from tourists, which makes it often hard to walk around (or bike) and enjoy your day. On top of that, Amsterdam is an attraction as a party city for many people and the crowded spaces can also get overwhelmed by parting people, often drunk or wasted, that makes the crowded experience even worse.

You can't miss the canals in Amsterdam - explore them, and the rest of the city, by bike!
