Boulder Redstone
Clark County, Nevada
Description
Added by Elsie Vanderveer
Stunning drive along Lake Mead leads to deep red layered mounds perfect for bouldering and sunset photos.
Carving through highway 167 in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, 38 miles past the park entrance off of highway 93 take Lakeshore Road to Hwy 167 until the marked rest area of Redstone Picnic Area. The entrance will be obvious by the propped red rust formations, deserted parking lot, and spectacular boulder routes.
The area is sandy, so walk to your route in sandals and prepare for a few hours of fun.
If you're more into photography be sure to visit in the late afternoon/ early evening (also providing a break from the heat) to capture the light through crevices and holes.
For walkers, the trail itself is about a 0.5 mile loop-- more for an exploratory view of where to boulder than anything.
