Climb Mount Washington

Mt. Washington, known as the most dangerous small mountain in the world, holds the worlds' fastest wind velocity (231 mph) recorded at a summit.Mount Washington is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, north of North Carolina, and south of Ellesmere Island in North America.On a clear day, the 6,288 foot summit will give you a view that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the east, across Vermont to New York's Adirondack Mountains in the west, to Canada in the north, and to Massachusetts in the south. 

Mt. Washington is known to have a severe combination of wind and cold. The average annual temperature is 27.1°F, the summit temperature has never risen above 72°F. Hurricane-force wind, dense fog, driving rain, and snow occur even during the summer months, and sudden and extreme weather variations are common.

In summer you can approach the summit of Mount Washington, either by driving or taken the Cog Railway, but there is no better experience then hiking the 6,288ft beast. Hiking to the summit you can pick from a bunch of trails from Pinkham Notch Visitor Center: Tuckerman Ravine Trail, Huntington Ravine Trail, Lion Head Trail, Boott Spur Trail, Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, Jewell Trail, Great Gulf Trail. Starting the 8.4 miles Following the Tuckerman Ravine Trail from the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center for 2.3 miles until you reach the well signed junction with the Lion Head Trail on your right side. Take Lion Head trail and along Tuckerman Ravine's north rim before ascending a gentle slope rejoining the Tuckerman Ravine trail in 1.6 miles. From here follow the Tuckerman Ravine Trail 0.4 miles to the summit. The Lion Head Trail is a variation of the Tuckerman Ravine route that avoids climbing the actual ravine by climbing the Lion Head, a knob on the ravine's north rim which offers excellent views. This is the most popular winter ascent. Hiking Mount Washington in the winter is another animal, you need crampons, ice axe on a very bad weather day you need a rope because of visibility is 0 to none. if you get lucky on a clear day the views from the summit are absolutely spectacular. Mount Washington also is very popular for Alpine backcountry skiing.
