The Tonuco mountain north of Radium Springs offers a variety of hiking opportunities. Petroglyphs, old mines , great rock formations and beautiful views of the Rio Grande Valley.

To get to Tonuco Mountain North of RadiumSprings , NM from Las Cruces, NM take Interstate 25 to exit 32. Once off the interstate turn left on go under the interstate. Take the first dirt road to your left and drive to the top of the canyon.

If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle you can descend into the canyon and drive to the start of Petroglygh canyon. If not you will have to walk about a mile to the entrance. The canyon is very sandy and not easy to drive.

Petroglyph canyon is on the NE side of the mountain. Hike for 1.5 miles to the fluoride mine. You will see many petroglyphs a long the trail. You can visit the mine, just watch for open shafts.

After visiting the mine take the trail NW along the ridge for some good views of the Rio Grande valley to the west.

There are several good restaurants in nearby Las Cruces or Hatch, NM
